One of my favorite parts of being a crochet artist is designing patterns for holidays. Whether it’s a personalized gift or a decoration to fill a space in my home, I love having the flexibility to create pieces that I can customize for the holidays.
I designed this Winter Pine Wall Hanging pattern as a piece for a local fundraising fair that I make and donate pieces to. It is quick to work up (depending on your experience level and speed, this piece can be done in a couple of hours). It is great for home decor, but also a great option for craft fairs/vendor markets and gift giving.
What you’ll need:
- Worsted weight yarn – I used a skein of Big Twist’s Living yarn in the color Pine Green
- H/5.00 mm Hook
- Yarn needle
- Wooden stick/dowel (at least 12 inches long)
- Optional – blocking materials
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- fsc = foundation single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sp = space
- st = stitch
Special Stitches:
- Puff stitch = yarn over, pull up a loop (repeat two more times). Yarn over, pull through all 7 loops.
Notes:
- The stitch count for each row is listed in parentheses at the end of each row of the pattern.
- Using worsted weight yarn and a size H/5.00mm hook, my finished piece, without the fringe, measured 10.5″W x 13″L
- You can opt for a different sized hook, just keep in mind that sizing up or down, depending on your gauge, can result in a different size for the finished piece. Based on that, you may need a shorter or longer stick/dowel rod to hang your project.
Pattern:

After the last row, ch 1 and turn. Sc around the stick/wooden dowel rod and in the back loop only of each st across. Fasten off after the last st.
Weave in ends and block for best results.
Tie yarn or string to each end of the stick/wooden dowel and weave each end into the back of your work to hide the tail after tying your knot.
For the optional fringe, attach to the first st, and every other st across (sk one space in between each fringe).
Pictured below is the finished piece without the fringe using Big Twist Living yarn in the color Sage.
